KANA x HATO Japanese Tableware Explorer
2 week course,
November 14th & 21st, 7-9pm
We are pleased to be hosting Ana and the team from KANA at Hato Press this Autumn/Winter. Established in London in 2012 KANA was founded by Ana Kerin who is a sculptor with a background in fine art, she uses hand-building techniques to produce incredibly beautiful and sculptural pieces of ceramics.
The Hato x KANA course is a combination of Ana's master class on large hand building and her KANA clay parlour with a focus on functional tableware. It is an exploration of creativity and sustainability two themes explored by both practices.
Students will get the rare opportunity to learn the traditional Japanese technique of Kurinuki whereby clay is removed in order to mould a shape rather than added. Techniques that we will be exploring during this course will be press moulding, slab building and the ancient Japanese technique of Kurinuki where by clay is removed in order to shape a piece.
